EIGHTH GRADE
In Eighth Grade our students study the Holocaust and other
contemporary aggressions. Our Holocaust curriculum is
designed for students in middle school using the materials
provided by the Learning Center of Yad Vashem (the world's
Holocaust Museum in Israel) and the United States
Holocaust Memorial Museum. We promise to maintain a
high level of sensitivity and keen awareness of the
complexity of the subject matter.
Students learn about the Holocaust through children's diaries, poetry, and art. They will learn the factors leading to the Holocaust, about Jewish Resistance and Resilience, learn to identify current parallels, and be challenged to think critically about their own roles and responsibilities today. On their Jewish Heritage trip to Los Angeles, they will visit the
Museum of Tolerance and later in the year take a role in leading our community's annual Yom HaShoah Holocaust Remembrance Day) Commemoration.
The eighth grade Jewish Heritage Trip includes visits to the
Museum of Tolerance, the Skirball Museum, the Hollywood
Walk of Fame, (where they identify Jewish "stars"), learn
about the Jewish influence in the world of comics, explore
the influence of media pioneers at the MGM studio, and
participate in a Jewish Scavenger hunt at Disneyland.
