Second Grade
SECOND GRADE
In second grade we expand upon our discovery of the holidays and their traditions.
In studying prayer, we will review the Four Questions of Passover, Sh’ma, Bar’chu, and Shabbat blessings. We will begin to learn learn the Chanukkah blessings, Oseh Shalom, Adon Olam, and Ma Tovu.
Bible study and Jewish history for this year will include a review of the Matriarchs and Patriarchs and begin to add favorite Genesis personalities: Adam and Eve; Caine and Abel, Noah.
Our study of Jewish values will incorporate previously studied topics and branch out to include repairing the world (tikkun olam), welcoming the guest (chachnasat orchim) and repairing the world. (tikun olam)
Students will review Hebrew letters and vowels and will practice reading short prayers from the prayer book (siddur) and Torah. In conversational Hebrew, students will master greetings and be able to talk about themselves. Topics
will include my family and me, my house, and food.
Our Israel studies will include basic geography of Israel, with a focus on the Golan Heights, and students will be introduced to what it is like to go to school in Israel.
